Yacht Slavyanka is waiting out a storm off the coast of Crete

During the first week of sailing the yacht Slavyanka performing the International complex expedition Along the routes of Russian sailors across two oceans on the route Marmaris (Turkey) - Vladivostok, passed the Aegean Sea and, due to weather conditions, is waiting out a storm off the coast of the Greek island Crete. On December 2, the sports sailing vessel Slavyanka left the port of Marmaris and headed for the intermediate bunkering port - Gibraltar. During the expedition, the crew of the Slavyanka will have to identify all undetected problem areas in materiel and mechanisms so that specialists would eliminate them. Only after that the boys and girls wishing to test themselves in the harsh conditions of everyday life at sea will be able to board. The crew encountered a storm with a strong, 10-12 m / s westerly wind and swell with a height of 3-3.5 meters in the Mediterranean. The progress was getting harder. It became clear that maneuvering further meant putting the ship and her crew at serious risk. The ship’s master decided to turn on the opposite course, to the island of Crete for shelter and waiting out the storm. Exactly at 4:00 am on December 9, the tired Slavyanka laid down her sails and dropped anchor in the depths of the Bay of Kissamos. At present the Slavyanka is anchored in the Bay awaiting an improvement in the weather. The yacht Slavyanka is the first yacht of the sailing flotilla, purchased by Rosmorport in accordance with the instructions of the head of state for the Association Far Eastern School under Sails. Based on materials from the Rosmorrechflot website
